FAQ

The GC50 Virtual Challenge is being held to commemorate the GC community’s Golden Jubilee. To celebrate our 50th year, we have made the event more engaging and inclusive as compared to our usual Uphill Runs. We have moved our physical challenge to the virtual space due to COVID-19 restrictions, but at the same time expanded our invitation to include almost 10 times our usual participation numbers! Participants in GC50 Virtual Challenge work together to achieve 50,000km in 50 days together, and at the same time competing in leaderboards, earning awesome digital badges for themselves, while keeping fit!
The GC50 Virtual Challenge is a 50-day event which starts on 20th October 0000H and ends on 8th December 2359H.
For the virtual challenge, any GC community member can join by going through 3 simple steps. First, start by running, walking, cycling and/or swimming anytime, anywhere. Second, clock your mileage through our Google Form. Do note that you are required to share with us a picture/screenshot of your accomplishment as proof! Third, submit the Google Form and go back to our site to see our community achievements, leaderboards, and digital badges update automatically!

You need to (1) submit your distance (timing is optional) through the Google Form, (2) share with us proof of achievements via screenshots or photos, and (3) to the extent possible, submit the details on the same day. The proof can be a photo of your step-tracker, smartwatch or treadmill displays, or a screenshot of your tracked activities with any mobile app such as:

  • Strava
  • Runtastic
  • MapMyRun
  • Runkeeper
  • Nike Plus
  • Garmin
  • Endomondo
  • Fitbit
  • Other Phone Health App
Mileage clocked by walking counts towards the GC community's achievement of 50,000km and the respective sub-communities' achievement, but will not be included in the qualification for badge achievements and individual leaderboards!
Yes! Do include photos of the dashboards on the treadmill or spinning machine to compete in leaderboards / badges too!
You will only need to submit your timing if you want to compete for the Individual Leaderboards or earn Digital Badges such as “The Flash”. If you are just participating to contribute to our community’s target of 50,000km and not competing, timing is not required.

If you are just participating to contribute to our community’s target of 50,000km and not competing, you need not upload screenshots or photos of your treadmill displays etc.; even a photo of you drenched in sweat after your run is fine. If you are competing for leaderboards or to earn Digital Badges such as “The Flash”, do upload a photo of your step-tracker, smartwatch or treadmill displays, or a screenshot of your tracked activities via mobile apps!

Please note that we will be sharing hand-picked photos / screenshots on our site’s Photo Gallery! So do include your achievements with selfies!

You may upload your achievements through our Google Form which can be accessed through our site’s main page, or via this link.

You may let us know in the Form below!
There is no limit to how many entries or how much mileage you can clock per day. For example, you can complete a triathlon within a day and upload 3 entries for run, swim and cycle :)
No account creation is required, but you are recommended to use the same Name throughout the whole event, for our automated data tabulation purposes. Some of our digital badges and individual leaderboards compute based on cumulative achievements of individuals, based on the unique Names used.

Yes. By default, distance is clocked by running/ jogging/ walking. If you’re cycling, your mileage clocked will be multiplied by 0.25. If you’re swimming, your distance clocked will be multiplied by 6. For example:

Activity Multiplier Actual Distance Covered Distance Clocked After Multiplier
Run/Jog/Walk 1:1 1 km 1 km
Swim 1:6 1 km 6 km
Cycle 1:0.25 1 km 0.25 km

Hence, for the above example, the cumulative distance clocked will be 7.25 km.

You are encouraged to track your own achievements, for purposes of achieving Digital Badges or compete on Leaderboards.

We do verify submitted data frequently and have a number of ways to detect cheaters, but we cannot stop people from doing things like putting Fitbit on their dogs!

However, please remember Rule number 1 - this is an honour-based system to work towards a common goal as a community. Participate with Integrity.
